Child Find

Special Education services are available to eligible children within the Sonora Independent School District.  The student must be between the ages of 3 and 21 with a documented handicap and an educational need that requires special education.  Children with visual and/or auditory impairments may be eligible at birth.  A variety of placement options are available if found eligible after a full and individual evaluation.

Assessment on each campus is conducted by qualified Speech/Language Pathologists, Educational Diagnosticians, and Licensed Specialists in School Psychology. Any student suspected of having a disability that will qualify them for special education services should be assessed. This group of professionals is responsible for reevaluation to determine continued eligibility for services as well as initial evaluation of students.

For children ages 3-5 or placed in a private or home school, please contact the Sonora Elementary School Office at (325) 387-6940, ext. 2000.  For school-aged students attending a SISD school, contact the campus Counselor.
